The Barcelona-based footwear company is pioneering a business model that rewards a more sustainable approach to footwear.
THE BEGINNING
In 2015, while pursuing his MBA in Hawaii, founder Alejandro Porras was inspired by locals’ reactions to his well-loved Avarcas – the casual leather sandals long worn by the Spanish. He embarked on a journey to create his version, and ALOHAS was born. Today, the Barcelona-based brand stands at the forefront of sustainable footwear.
THE ON-DEMAND SOLUTION
ALOHAS’ wholesale business operates on a pre-order system, flipping the script on traditional manufacturing, which can lead to overproduction. Customers are rewarded for buying early with discounts, and by producing on-demand, waste is minimized.
KEEPING IT LOCAL
The brand produces its collections in neighboring Alicante, Spain, which helps maintain the highest quality standards. It reduces their carbon footprint, ensures excellent labor conditions, and supports the craftsmanship of trusted artisans.
CHOICE PARTNERSHIPS
ALOHAS partners with suppliers certified by the Leather Working Group. That means they undergo rigorous audits to ensure a transparent leather supply chain and meet recommended guidelines for tanning. They must provide safe working conditions for employees and adhere to recommended energy consumption levels, water usage, air and noise emissions, and waste management.
