The entire Nancy Meyers affair is not much of a garden, ayes, you are correct. It’s the kitchens, the linen, the low lighting, the oversized bowls, the veneer appearance of cost, the type of home where one feels like someone would always have fresh lemons, and where there never is a cluttered junk-drawer. Even its interiors which are sociable, familiar, serene and easygoing, without being at all undress. Basically, there’s like this perfection, and so, why not bring this outside to your pergola?

Why not have it along in your entire garden outside? Why not carry them vibes and make a cushy oasis? Essentially, the garden should no longer feel like a patch of grass but rather it should feel more like an additional room of the house.

Treat the Seating Like Living Room Furniture

Sometimes outdoor seating is treated in a very careless manner and that is why no one would like to stay out long. As far as only maybe an hour or two, should you be lucky, but otherwise, that is all. So it is generally only two hard chairs and a wobbly table, which falls down each time somebody sets a drink down, not quite serving up the relaxed summer afternoon. Why do that? You can have plenty of lovely, pretty cheap out-of-doors furniture. It’s very Nancy Meyer vibes to have wrought iron, so you can especially look into that. O, cushions, cushions.

Bring in the Soft, Homey Details

Assuming you have watched either of the films, or just seen on the internet and read something about people tearing down the signature look, one of the things you might have noticed is that the Nancy Meyers interior appearance tends to be effective since the rooms seem to be stratified. The place has lamps, books, ceramics, flowers, fruit bowls, throws, and cushions, and small details that render the place lived in without being cluttered. It’s all super intentional.

But how can you do that outside? Well,  that can translate into outdoor cushions, a proper rug, potted herbs, lanterns, terracotta pots, oval above ground pools surrounded by hydrangeas and a variety of plants,  striped fabric, ruffles in the cushions, soft towels, fringes/ tassels on the parasol, and a tray that makes drinks feel a little more intentional. These are just some examples; you can do what you want, but it’s about layering.

You Need to Make Food Part of the Setup

And a final point in this regard, Nancy Meyers interiors, it always feels, get the emotional value of food. Bread, coffee, wine, salad, pasta, fruit or something informal but beautiful to sit around, is always present. You are aware that in The Parent Trap, Somethings Got to Give and some of the others are quite similar with the food. However, out of doors the same conception is a success.

However, the garden can be more useful and inviting with a barbecue or a pizza oven or a plain outdoor dining environment. It does not have to be a complete outside kitchen. Eating out already feels more comfortable thanks to table, good lights, and even the space on the table to put the plates and dishes into. And, well, that is what it is all about. Assuming that it is easy to take food outside because of the space, people are going to use it.
