Where to stay in Mykonos

The tourist attractions in Mykonos are quite spread out, which is why more tourists are choosing to rent a car there or stay in Mykonos villas. To make the most of your trip, be able to visit all the places (including neighbouring islands like Santorini, via ferry) and shop with ease, renting a car becomes essential.

Using your cell phone freely in Mykonos

Being able to use your cell phone while travelling is extremely useful and necessary, since you can use it to research beaches, tourist attractions, access weather forecast apps, and even use GPS, saving you the cost of renting this equipment for your car. Plus, of course, you can stay connected on various social networks and WhatsApp! Therefore, we’ve selected the best tips on how to use your cell phone freely in Greece. It’s super cheap, and you’ll be able to use your phone all day long in Athens, Mykonos, Santorini, and anywhere else in Greece.

Now that you know where to stay and how to make the most of your trip in Mykonos, here’s a quick experience-based 4-day trip you can follow:

Day 1 of the Mykonos itinerary

Undoubtedly, one of the best things to do in Mykonos, if you have three days in the city, is to visit some of its beautiful beaches. Even if time is short, you need to see at least one beach on this island bathed by a fantastic sea.

And if you don’t know which one to visit on your first day, try Paraga Beach or Platis Gialos Beach, both of which are among the most popular and have the infrastructure to welcome visitors. Both are located on the southern tip of the island and are a 10-minute drive apart.

After exploring the beaches, stroll through Mykonos’s tourist centre. There you’ll find dozens of houses, shops, and restaurants with white architecture and stone or tile floors, the kind we’re used to seeing on postcards of this island.

Enjoy the end of the day with a drink or coffee in one of the bars in the Little Venice area, considered a must-see tourist spot in Mykonos. Its historic buildings and bars contrast with the sea and, at sunset, create a beautiful view. Take advantage of the fact that the establishments here are located by the sea and tend to stay open late!

Day 2 of the Mykonos itinerary

There are also cultural tours in Mykonos, and if you have three days on the island, you can visit the Archaeological Museum on your second day. The Mykonos Archaeological Museum is a small and charming space where you can see hundreds of pieces, ranging from jewellery and household utensils to statues found on the islands around Mykonos, especially Delos, which we will discuss further below.

The collection is very rich, and includes objects dating back to the 25th century BC! If you want to plan your visit, be aware that the museum is open from 8 am to 3 pm, and may close on holidays. There is an entrance fee, but it is symbolic.

After your visit to the museum, walk to Panagia Paraportiani, the most popular church in Mykonos. Built of white stone, it consists of four small chapels, plus a small upper section overlooking the Mediterranean Sea. If possible, visit it at sunset, as the scenery is even more beautiful (and the photos turn out great!). And to end the night, don’t miss out on one of Mykonos’ nightclubs.

Hosted by some of the world’s most famous DJs, the parties are usually scattered along the beaches and last until sunrise. If you’re unsure, there’s a club that’s a real tourist attraction there, Cavo Paradiso Club, where one of the coolest parties on the island takes place.

Day 3 of the Mykonos itinerary

On your third day in Mykonos, we recommend that you explore the island’s coastline more and visit a beach further away than the one you visited on your first day. If in doubt, head to Kapari Beach, which has less infrastructure and is therefore a bit more deserted (but equally beautiful!), or Psarou, which is ideal for snorkelling (and, unlike the other, has complete infrastructure that even brings life to the place at night).

At the end of your third day, take the opportunity to visit the Kato Myli windmills. These windmills are a postcard image of Mykonos, and you can’t miss them when you visit the island! There are 16 large white windmills that were built in the 16th century to grind grain, but they no longer function. They sit atop a small hill, offering a beautiful view of the sea.

Nearby, there’s a very famous restaurant called Sea Satin by Gryparis, which has views of both the sea and the windmills. Since you’ll already be there, take advantage of the opportunity to visit and end the day with a nice dinner!

Day 4 of the Mykonos itinerary

On your fourth day in Mykonos, you can further enjoy the island’s beaches and visit, for example, Ftelia Beach, which has become known as a windsurfer’s paradise due to its winds. Even so, it boasts clean water, a sandy beach with few bathers, and calm seas, even with the wind. It’s a beach for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle, as it’s less crowded and has little infrastructure. There’s also Ornos, a great beach with good service, offering sunbeds and parasol rentals, bars, and a relaxed atmosphere with clear waters.

However, if you want to diversify your sightseeing on your fourth day, head to the island of Delos, which is next to Mykonos. Delos served as the religious centre of the Cyclades archipelago and is believed to be the birthplace of the gods Apollo and Artemis, according to Greek mythology.

The island was only discovered in the 19th century and preserves ruins of monuments and statues from centuries before Christ. It’s incredible! There, you can still climb Mount Kythnos, which offers a beautiful view of the Aegean Sea and the surrounding islands. To get there, simply take a ferry from Chora, the main town of Mykonos, which departs at 10 am.

That’s it! I hope you’ll enjoy your trip to Mykonos and make good memories of it.
