Marketing wants brand consistency, designers want visual balance, and of course, somebody in the meeting usually remembers reading that orange buttons outperform blue ones.

Here there is a commercial argument and there is an ethical argument. Millions of people in the world have red-green color vision deficiency. A red-only error message cannot be read by a quantifiable portion of any audience, or a chart that is based on hues can be read at all.
The impact of color on UX design is easiest to understand when design choices are tested within a real interface, not judged in isolation. A palette that looks convincing in a presentation can fall apart on a dimmed phone screen in daylight.

A sensible order of priorities looks something like this:

- Error, warning, and validation states, checking whether any of them rely on color alone.
